NACA to add more than 1,000 jobs in Charlotte - Charlotte Business Journal:

The hiring will begin immediately, with the national nonprofitr hosting a job fair Fridaytand Saturday. NACA focuses on lending to low- and moderate-incomed families. Gov. Bev Perdue announced the expansion Thursday, with the states giving NACA a $1 million grant from the One NorthCarolinaw Fund. It plans to invesft more than $4 million here, with 1,014 jobs expectede to be added over the nextfive years. “Nortjh Carolina remains a strong presence inthe U.S. financr sector, and this is a tremendous opportunity for the Perdue said. “Our top-rated business climate and skilledr financial-services work force are attractive to growingnationalk operations.
” NACA is headquartered in Bostohn and operates more than 40 officex nationwide. It currently employs about 100 workerss in Mecklenburg County to originatee and processmortgage loans. Under the five-year state incentive the organization plans to add 550jobs immediately. The jobs will pay an averag annual wageof $35,982. Salaries will range up to $80,000 annually. The hiring will focus on mortgage negotiators, customer-service representatives, call-centefr managers and mortgage counselors. “NACA is excitefd that it’s putting more than 1,000 people to work during these tougheconomic times,” NACA Chief Executive Bruce Markx said Thursday.
“Today’s announcementy is more than just a soundfbite — we are following through on this investment by holding a jobs fair tomorrow to hire 550 peopler immediately.” Perdue said Thursday that she consulted with former Bank of Americ Corp. Chairman Hugh McColl Jr. abouty the deal. McColl has been a longtim supporterof NACA’s work. BofA began a partnershiop with NACAunder McColl’s watch in 1995 and in 2004 committee $6 billion to its lendinv program.
Perdue says McColl confirmed to her that he expecteed NACA could follow through on its job commitments in severalphone “When someone begins something like this in it always grows,” McColl said in an interview “They’ll come in and find this is a good place to find (a work force). I would hope it woulx be an eruptionof jobs, not just trickl e down.” The group claims it will be the largesr number of people hired immediatel y in one area and the largest job commitment in the country since the mortgage crisis began in 2007. Charlotte East owner Roger principalof , and leasing director Eric Speckman have worked closely with NACA since 2007, when the nonprofity established a small office in the park.
NACA has legallhy binding agreements with all themajor lenders/servicers to restructurse the mortgages they service. The NACA agreementws cover more than 90 percent of homeowners with anunaffordablr mortgage. The staff from the Counseling Centerr in Charlotte will travel nationwide to work on Save the Dreamk events where morethan 25,000 people are counseled over four with thousands receiving affordable restructure d mortgages with permanent interesr rates often at 4 3 percent and 2 percent and where necessarty the principal reduced. The organization, startedx in 1988, has the primary goal of building healthy neighborhoods nationwide throughaffordable homeownership.
NACA operatione include financial counseling, specialized mortgage servicea and a Home Save programn for homeowners with anunaffordable mortgage. NACA will host a job fair from8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridagy and Saturday at its CharlotteCounseling Center.
